You suspect you may have endometriosis or adenomyosis
Can endometriosis cause IBS-like symptoms without bowel lesions?
Yes. Many patients with endometriosis experience IBS-like symptoms even when there aren’t visible bowel lesions on imaging or at surgery. Inflammation in the pelvis, heightened nerve sensitivity, and hormone-driven changes can all affect how the gut functions and feels, leading to bloating, constipation, diarrhea, cramping, and pain.
Pelvic floor muscle overactivity can also mimic or amplify bowel symptoms by making it harder to empty comfortably and increasing pressure and pain with digestion or bowel movements. In our practice, we look at the whole pattern—cycle timing, pelvic pain triggers, bowel symptoms, and exam findings—to identify what’s driving your symptoms and what treatment approach is most likely to help. If your symptoms sound familiar, you can reach out to schedule a consultation with our team to discuss a focused evaluation and personalized plan.
