Can fibroids return after a myomectomy?

Generalpelvicabdominal

Yes. A myomectomy removes the fibroids we can see and safely excise at the time of surgery, but it doesn’t stop your body from forming new fibroids in the future.

Whether fibroids return varies from person to person and can be influenced by factors like your age, how many fibroids were present, family history/genetics, and hormone environment. In follow-up, we focus on what recurrence could look like for you, what symptoms to watch for, and whether periodic monitoring makes sense based on your goals (including fertility) and how your uterus healed. If you’re concerned about recurrence or symptoms returning, reach out to our team to review your history and imaging and discuss a plan.
