Is a myomectomy the same as a hysterectomy?

Topic:Surgery
Affected areas:pelvicabdominal

No—these are different surgeries. A myomectomy removes uterine fibroids while preserving the uterus, which means it can maintain the possibility of carrying a pregnancy and keeps your uterus in place.

A hysterectomy removes the uterus, so pregnancy is no longer possible afterward. If keeping your uterus or preserving fertility is a priority, myomectomy is often the first surgical option we consider; if symptoms like bleeding or pain are severe and you’re certain you don’t want future pregnancy, our team may also discuss hysterectomy as an alternative during your consultation.
