You suspect you may have endometriosis or adenomyosis
Can constipation be a sign of bowel endometriosis?
Yes—constipation can be a sign of bowel endometriosis, especially when it predictably flares before or during your period. Endometriosis can irritate the bowel surface, involve deeper layers of the bowel wall, or affect the tissues around the bowel in a way that changes motility and makes stool harder to pass.
Constipation can also be indirect, caused by adhesions that restrict bowel movement or by pelvic floor muscle guarding/spasm that develops in response to chronic pelvic pain. Because bowel-related symptoms don’t reliably tell us how deep endometriosis is (and imaging or prior tests can still look “normal”), our team focuses on a careful symptom history and targeted evaluation to understand what’s driving your constipation. If this pattern fits you, reach out to schedule a consultation so we can review your symptoms and discuss next steps.
