Can medication shrink an endometrioma?

Topic:Deep Disease
Affected areas:pelvicabdominal

Hormonal medications can sometimes reduce bleeding into an endometrioma, calm inflammation, and improve pain, and in some cases the cyst may shrink modestly. However, medication does not remove the cyst wall, so it typically can’t “treat it away” or eliminate the endometrioma.

These therapies are most often used to control symptoms, to suppress disease after surgery to reduce the chance of recurrence, or to help manage timing when surgery is being delayed for fertility planning. If you’re weighing medical management versus surgical treatment, our team can review your symptoms, ultrasound findings, and goals (pain relief, fertility, or both) and help you decide on the next best step.
