What does a high CA-125 mean with pelvic pain or an ovarian cyst?

Topic:Diagnosis
Affected areas:pelvicabdominal

A high CA-125 is a nonspecific blood test result—it can be elevated with ovarian endometriomas (endometriosis cysts), but it can also rise with normal menstruation and other common conditions like adenomyosis, fibroids, or pelvic infection. It may add context when you have pelvic pain or an ovarian cyst, but it can’t confirm endometriosis on its own.

What matters most is how the CA-125 fits with your overall picture, including your symptoms and what imaging shows. Sometimes repeating the test to look at trends can be helpful, but only when our team interprets it alongside your history and exam findings. If you’re dealing with persistent pelvic pain or a concerning cyst, we can help evaluate the likely causes and discuss next steps, including whether surgery is appropriate.
