What medications help endometriosis and adenomyosis?
NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) can help reduce inflammation and period-related pain from endometriosis and adenomyosis, but they don’t treat the underlying disease. Hormonal medications—such as combined birth control, progestin-only options, and GnRH-based therapies—can sometimes lessen bleeding and pain by suppressing cycling activity, yet symptom relief varies from person to person and typically lasts only while you’re on the medication.
These medications can also come with meaningful side effects, and for some patients those effects can be difficult or long-lasting, so the “right” choice depends on your symptoms, goals, and prior reactions to hormones. If medications aren’t giving reliable relief or you’re trying to avoid ongoing suppression, our team can help clarify whether endometriosis, adenomyosis, or both are likely contributors and discuss what a definitive plan—including surgical options when appropriate—could look like.
