Does letrozole during IVF stimulation help endometriosis?
The short answer
Letrozole during IVF stimulation may help some patients feel more stable symptom-wise by keeping estrogen from climbing as high. It can help manage hormones during a short window, but it does not heal endometriosis, remove disease or reverse scarring.
Letrozole is sometimes used during ovarian stimulation in IVF protocols to keep estrogen levels lower than with standard stimulation, because it blocks aromatase (the enzyme that helps your body make estrogen). Since endometriosis is often estrogen-responsive, keeping estrogen from climbing quite as high may help some patients have more stable symptoms during a cycle. It can be a useful tool when we’re trying to balance fertility goals with quality of life.
That said, letrozole is not a treatment that heals endometriosis. At best, it can help manage the hormonal environment for a short time; it doesn’t remove disease, reverse scarring, or correct the underlying inflammation and nerve involvement that drive many symptoms.
